How do we deal with the sins of others against us??? How can we truly forgive when past grievences are repeated constantly? It's so easy to get sucked in to the trap of defending yourself - especially when the other party never admits wrongdoing! All I can do is remember that I just cannot and that it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me and rely on His faith and His forgiveness for others to work through me. This is a daily walk. Thank God He did it all for me.
Something I read in the book, THE CURE, has helped me tremendously with forgiveness ... It all centers on BELIEVING the finished work of Jesus being enough in the life of the other person ... If I don't believe this, I am saying His finished work was not enough.... Here is the quote "Somewhere along the line, we became convinced we needed to trade relationships of love for strategic management of others. That shift frightened us away from each other. That shift forfeited the only distinction Jesus asks us to be known for: Loving and allowing ourselves to be loved. - - A healthy friend and protector depends on Christ's life in you to be enough ... That way, they can stop policing your behavior and focus on enjoying life in relationship with you."~ John Lynch, author of The Cure
