My Navy Dad

Here's a picture of my dad when he was serving our country in the navy. My goodness! (He's on the left.) At the time of this picture, he was a Quartermaster Third Class. . .which is right below General. Right?

  3. Thanks for your comments, everyone. My dad, handsome man that he was, passed on a couple of years ago, just three months after my mother. I can't remember his rank in the Navy but I'm trying to find out from my brothers. I don't think it was anything more than a 2 or 3 star general.

He was either an Engineman Third Class or a Quartermaster Third Class at the time of this photo, Ralph (the insignia is a little blurry). That would be an E-4 pay grade. Spent seven years in the Navy myself. Sorry to hear that he is gone. Life speeds by so fast...

  5. Dave, thank you! That's it! I believe he was a Quartermaster Third Class. I think that's just below General, right?

Right, "just below." ;o) If he was a Quartermaster, that meant he was responsible to aid the ship in her navigation. Was he good at reading the stars?

  7. Yes, come to think of it. And he was great at getting from place to place. He knew every conceivable shortcut, and insisted we take them all. We sometimes didn't, and we felt his scorn!
